About Cockle Creek
The furthest road south on the continent! Incredible national park and bush walking to South Cape and pristine beaches. Historically a whaling and forestry industry, transformed now to a peaceful popular holiday destination and small local population.
Cockle Creek sits on the beautiful Recherche Bay, named for one of the French Explorer Bruni D'Entrecasteaux.s ships (Recherche and Esperance.) He sheltered here for a number of weeks in 1792 for the crew to rest and repair damages to the ships. This exploratory expedition was pivotal in discovery of native fauna, flora and coastal mapping.
Today Cockle Creek is a lovely quiet little corner of paradise where holidaymakers and adventurists alike seek out the empty beaches and untouched wilderness.
